MS Word .doc & .docx problem

I have Vista Home Premium that came with the Laptop I bought 11-21-08.
I opened new Word Files that were .doc but now all new Word Files are .docx.
I didn’t think much about it but now when I type & end a sentence then hit enter it gives me a double space.
I copied one of my old Word .doc to a folder & it doesn’t give me a double space, it gives me a single space or no space between the lines. (I can hit Enter again to get a double space if I want it).

I hope this is a simple fix but I can’t figure it out & I didn’t mess with the options in Word & just use the basic like Fount, Fount size, Font color & ABC.

I have off 2007 & maybe it was a MS Windows Update?

No. Office 2007 is probably set as a default to provide double spacing, which you can easily change to single spacing by checking Word 2007 help to change the default line spacing.

However, the reason it does not do it in your old documents is just because of that - these are old, already created documents. In Word 2003 format. Thus they already have a template associated, which includes a single carriage return upon hitting enter.

Finally, please realize that Office 2007 is a ***separate*** program from Vista - it does not come *with* Vista, although ti works quite well with both Vista and XP.
