Vista - HP Recovery Manager

I ran across this statement in Tutorials.

It needs some clarifications:

In Pavillion and Presario notebooks, HP Rec Mgr does more than just System restore. And btw, HP does not have its own version of SR. It runs Windows' version.

HP Rec Mgr has other functions: Re-install original software programs and hardware drivers and complete System Recovery restoring the original hard disk factory template. It can be utilized to create a set of recovery discs.

In HP Business notebook, Rec Mgr does not re-install software progs and drivers but does the others listed in Pavilion/Presario models.

I don't think HP Recovery Manager should be uninstalled. Or if perchance, he meant uninstalling System Restore, be aware that HP Rec Mgr will be unable to system restore on its own if Windows SR is unstalled or disabled.

Umm where did you see that cause you can't uninstall it and its not even listed in the Program and Features. You can only disable the windows system restore. I'm pretty sure all HP products have the Recovery Manager to restore you computer to Factory Condition.

System Recovery is not System Restore. Huge diff.

I dunno what you mean. What does not use W syst rec and what's just an image of OS? You mean HP Rec Mgr?...' cause I had used it three times...to re-install some original software programs which I had unstalled during decrapping and a driver and once, full system recovery factory setting. And that's why I am kinda stumped at the quoted statement I ran across.

Two months ago, I had a Gateway and Vista 32 and I don't believe it has Recovery Mgr. I think HP's Rec Mgr is HP's..not windows'. Am I wrong?

All it is a complete backup of your Windows installation and all the crapware, drivers etc. when HP installed the OS. HP Recovery is only for HP products. Gateway might have something similar to HP's recovery but it could have come in a disc format just like you can make the disc with HP recovery. Hope this makes sense.

What does not make sense to me is the quoted statement that seems to say that if you want system restore, you can unstall HP Recovery Manager or Windows System restore...meaning(?) no need to have two Sytem Restores?

All I know is that you can't uninstall HP recovery from Programs and Features cause its not listed there but you can delete the partition but that's about it and when you use the recovery disc to restore you computer to factory condition it puts the recovery partition back on to your hard drive. Windows system restore is only for when you update your computer from windows update and when you install drivers and software.

ok the way i see it the recovery manger is a Windows PE booting of the hp recovery partition...
i believe what coolneyorker is the one that manages the partition
meaning you can make so it changes to the factory setting on your OEM computer...
i have only seen this in a toshiba notebook
for my hp table i didnt even think for a second and cleaned the drive (dont really like the bloat, and also well some of guys know....7.....)

I think it meant that the HP Backup and Recovery Manager could make a restore point as well. Not sure about uninstalling it though unless you had a HP Recovery Disc and didn't need the partition anymore. Otherwise, I would just see if there was an option somewhere in the HP program for it not to create restore points.
