Vista - W MM and Wmm 2.6 help please

Hi everyone

I've hit a brick wall trying to use WMM &/or WMM 2.6 to edit my movies from my camcorder.

The camcorder is a Sony handycam DCR-SCR36E 40HDD. I'm using Vista home 32 bit on my Dell Inspiron 531 AMD 64 x 2 Dual Core 5000, 2 gig RAM.

My daughter has been using WMM on the Vista machine without any probs using a cheap digital camera in video mode. Whenever she used WMM 2.6 it used to freeze (hence she used WMM)

I got the kids the Sony Camcorder mentioned above and unfortunately cant use either of the WMMs. When she uses 2.6, it allows her to import one clip then freezes. WMM allows her to import unlimited clips but they show up as audio clips without video (ahhhhhhhh).

Anyway, all the video footage plays perfectly in WMP without any probs.

It has got to be codecs, but believe me I've tried them all. Also there was a mention of Nero config probs, but I dont have it on my pc. I've tried for days trying to sort this, there must be someone out there.........

It is codec related. Are you unable to run WMM Version 6 due to your GPU??

"Movie Maker 2.6 is for Windows Vista users whose computer cannot run the Vista version of Movie Maker.

To test if your computer can run the Vista version of Movie Maker:

1. From the Start menu, click All Programs.
2. Click Windows Movie Maker.

If Movie Maker launches, you should not download version 2.6."

WMM V.6 supports the following:
MP2, MP2V, MPE, MPV2, MPEG, MPG, WM, WMV, AVI, BMP, JPEG, MP3, and WAV
