Vista - Corrupt Registry Problem

Hey, im in a pickle.
I bought a HP pavillion m9351 premium x64 at christmas and used it regularly since, but the only information I added to it was my photos and my itunes library via an ipod. I decided i wanted to upgrade to the HP pavillion m9365 x64 and i used the built in backup software on the PC to backup my information onto an external drive.

I received the new pc 2 hours ago, the only thing i had a chance to do was to restore the information from the external drive to the new computer. However it would not then recognise the wireless networking software and denied me access to a lot of areas.

During recovery of the information on the drive, the system recovery partition began filling up and eventually ran out of space, and i understand this is a drive which is to be untouched.

I performed a full system restore and the result is that the OS won't load up at all, i am directed to the system repair manager which provides a number of error codes, but the most horrific being 'problem signature 05: Corrupt Registry' among various others.

What have i done and is it repairable? i hope i havn't bust my computer within hours of buying it... I am unable to run in safe mode also, it still redirects to startup repair.
I would very much appreciate any help, thanks guys/girls

As this is a new pc, i would recommend clean reinstall vista.
