DEP stopping itunes loading

I have been unable to load and use itunes because of a DEP message that pops up on screen shutting down the program.
I have done the following:
*uninstalled the programs itunes and quicktime
*uninstalled the programs completely using C:program files - the additional way of uninstalling.
* reinstalled/uninstalled both programs about 4 times
* reinstalled quicktime as a stand alone program
* used Windows installer clean up
Thankfully have read many forums like this that have given me these ideas, however to no avail.

I can't turn DEP off by selecting itunes and putting into the marked exception box because an error message tells me that itunes MUST operate with DEP. It will not drag it into the box.

I would aboslutely love any more assistance, it is beyond frustrating.
Cheers.

Have you tried downloading an installing a newer version of iTunes?

You should know that Apple and Microsoft have never really been the best bunkmates, and Apple are very quick to blame the faults in their software on the OS. To date, I have NEVER been able to get Quicktime working right on Vista x64.

Someone else here had the same sort of problem, check it out, maybe it will help.

See if anything there helps, if not, then we will work something else out.

Thank you Lord, yes they are the same screen messages I get on screen. I have downloaded the new version of itunes (8.0) and mediaplayer as I believe they must co-exist together. However they are still not responding. Even when I plug in my ipod i receive the same DEP message. I must say also that my screens are very slow even trying to get into any apple web pages. Coincidence?
Many thanks if you can help further.

I am having similar but slightly different problems:

- I had connected my iPod into iTunes and synced it successfully.
- Then I kept having this error say Com Surrogate Module error.
- I googled the Com Surrogate problem and the info I found told me to disable it using DEP.
- So I disabled Com Surrogate but next time I tried to connect my iPod it wont connect to iTunes only.
- When I tried to connect it, it removed all my synced data from my iPod Classic 60GB.
- It will register in My Computer but it wont activate in iTunes for some reason now.
- But here's the weird thing, my iPhone will connect and successfully sync in iTunes, without deleting my info, but my iPod wont connect. When it is connected I do a reset , and it briefly connects and then disconnects with a message coming up saying:

http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq348/jake2xs/Untitled-3.jpg

- On the iPod it will show that it connected to the computer, in My Computer it will show that it is connected but only in iTunes it won't.
- When I connect my iPod it freezes iTunes and if I open up My Computer, right click, Properties that will my Windows Explorer and My Computer will freeze.

I have tried several options:
- I have tried doing a System Restore to a date before I did the DEP. Didn't work
- I have tried repairing iTunes. Didnt work
- I have tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes and Quicktime. Didn't work
- I have tried the 5 R's of my iPod. Didn't work.

I have exhausted every possible option I can think of... PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank You :D

Can you choose DEP only for essential Windows Services, instead of everything (th second option), then reboot, install itunes, and renable the second option in DEP, rebooting once more?

Yeah I have tried it on another computer but it did the same thing. It froze the computer and iTunes.
I believe my iPod may be corrupted but once again everything I have tried everything I can research, think of or know to do but nothing has worked

You may need to try formatting and wiping the iPod.

I have few thoughts to add to this.

1. What version of Operating system are you running (Windows Vista or XP)?

2. Try adding iTunes into the DEP’s exception list [Data Execution Prevention].

Here are the steps below to add program to DEP exception list:

1. Press Start, right-click Computer, and choose Properties.
2. In the Window that appears, click on Advanced System Settings (on the left panel).

3. In the first box that says Performance, click on the Settings button.

4. In the Window that opens, click on the Data Execution Prevention tab at the top.

5. You will see an ‘exceptions box’ in the middle of that window. Click on the Add button and navigate to C: Drive, then Program Files, then the iTunes folder, and then choose the iTunes exe.

6. Add the exception and click OK on the DEP window.

Hi 4SaleUSA,

The two posters who were having problems in 2009 were both running Vista, as am I (this is Vista Forums after all). We're a little late to the party as far as this thread is concerned, but it so happens that recent versions of iTunes are once again producing BEX errors on Vista. One thing hasn't changed: It is still not possible to add iTunes to the DEP exception list. Here's a recent thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6601527?tstart=0

[Edit] Apple finally ended their so-called support for Vista with the release of iTunes 12.2.0 on June 30, 2015.
