Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 vs Vista 64

I have just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. Before I open the box I am questioning if anyone has this running on Vista Home Premium 64? Adobe says it is not compatible with my system.

I am running Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 on my system and have no problem.

I am new to this forum and hope someone can guide me on this issue before I break the seal.

Thanks!!

Most 32bit apps will run on Vista. If you have troubel installing it, you might want to try turning off UAC for the install.

Also, Adobe is famous for it's incompatibilies. I think it has somthing to do with with how its libraries load on your system.

Thanks to both of you. Okay, I'm going for it and opening the box! :D

I kind of thought it might work since lements 5 works on my system.

So far it is working! I haven't had much time with it yet, but it does have a lot of really neat new toys to play with!! I can hardly wait for a little more time . . .

Thanks for asking.

I have a vested interest also. Just bought a new Dell, primarily to do photoshopping and Premiere (video) on ..... and now Adobe are telling me that the program wouldn't run on this 64 bit system, and that I would have to upgrade to Photoshop CS which I know nothing about!!!

THANKS for YOUR reply....
I thought I might download the trial, and see if it works that way....

Photoshop Elements 7 has plenty of tools to work with. I just finally bit the bullitt and opened the box and installed it. I have an older XP system that I can still use if it really doesn't work with Vista 64. I would really hate to do that, but I don't want to go to the expense of Photoshop CS - whatever the newest version is. Good luck!!

I'm surprised they should say that..., or perhaps not:sa:

I have PSE 7 running for a while now, and have not found anything that wont work on Vista x64, actually it seems a bit faster than it was on Vista x32. Very subjective though I have not compared them

I have to say CS4's learning curve is extreme. Not extreme if you are jumping from CS3 to CS4 but if you're going from PSE to CS it's pretty steep. I wouldn't trust what Adobe says. Microsoft's website has a huge list of compatible softwares, I would consult that.

I'm running both PSE 7 and CS4 in Vista Ult 64. They run great. Actually better than XP.

CS4 really shines in a 64 bit OS. It installs both a 32 bit ver and a 64 bit verson. I have 8GB of ram and the 64bit ver gives me 4GB free ram for photos.

Can do that in a 32 bit OS.

The 32bit ver is handy if you have plug-ins that won't run in 64 bit. Just install them in the x86 directory.

Both Microsoft and Adobe said that it wasn't compatible. Oh well. My learning curve for CS4 would be very steep as I've only gone through the Adobe CS suite - the first CS. I'm not a pro so I don't think I need to get that involved again - although I really did enjoy Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. I can only imagine what they are like now and how they have improved.

Hey guys - my new laptop is gonna be 64 bit and I have PS 7 but I've had it so long from an old job - I don't think it was called "elements" tho... is there another PS 7? If not, you guys saved me worrying - I was told it wasn't compatible with my new $2200 laptop!! If it's diff - I'm panicking!

I'm running Vista 64 Ultimate.

CS4 is both 32bit and 64bit and runs great in Vista 64.

I installed PSE 7 without any problems. One or two 3ard party plugins didn't work, but I found ways around that.

My only guess is that Adobe will not support PSE7 in a 64bit OS because some plugins may not work.

I tested both programs in Windows 7 64 before I purchased Vista 64. They ran great in Win7 64 too.

I believe what you have is a 2002 version of Photoshop - not Photoshop Elements 7. When I tried to install my Adobe CS suite on my Vista 64, it would not load. I still have an XP computer so I don't worry. The Photoshop Elements 7 is not nearly as expensive as the beefy Photoshop. New version (which they claim does not run on Vista 64) is about $640 depending on where you buy it.

Good luck.
