issues with the AVp

first of all, this is my first post but I have been following the forum since I got Vista 64 and it has already helped me a lot. So thank you for all your hard work.

I have a problem, and I hope you can help:

I can't reinstall my Antivirus-Software, this is why I believe it could be a Windows related problem:

- When I install it tells me the Windows-Installer doesn't work.

- Whatever I do I can't get rid of the registration files in regedit. It just doesn't let me delete the files "Error deleting the key" (translated)

- there the Antivirus Software has left a file on my harddrive called shellEx.dell which I just can't delete

any thoughts?

Thank you!

Hi Antonius, welcome to the forum,

You havent said what make of program this is. Have you tried visiting their web site to see if there is a removal tool?

Alternatively you could try using CCleaner - Home as it might also remove the remnants.

I hope this helps.

Re: issues with the AVp

thank you for your replies

1) I tried various registry-cleaing softwares they all identify the problem but are unable to delete the registry entry

2) it is kaspersky internet security 2009 and I could not find any removal tool

3) I had to remove the programme manually (not using the windows installer) as the program was in some way corrupted and did not "let" me deinstall it

I removed the program from my sistem apart from the shellEx.dll file (any ideas there?) which is impossible to delete (I tried renaming, deleting software etc.) and the registry entries

Re: issues with the AVp

I tried the KIS uninstaller, Windows still thinks it's there and now the installation doesn't start due to a errormessage saying that the disk is currupted...

I don't understand why it has to be SO hard to get that software off my system...

Re: issues with the AVp

same problem.

- I can't get rid of the Kaspersky registry keys

- I can't reinstall the software because it tells me there is a problem with the windows installer (I tried solving the problem by updating the windows installer)
