gimp

i have used Gimp for a long time. I got a new hp vista home premium 64.
i installed it in the new comp. it worked fine for 2 weeks. Then I got the message like :" Gimp has stopped working. Windows will let you know if a solution is found." I uninstalled and installed 3 more times. Same message. I saw on forums on Microsoft to go to reg. and delete gimp stuff. i deleted only what said gimp but only after the 2 uninstall, as this scared me.
Anyway,Same problem. Please help me. I have written to Gimp, Microsoft, Gimptalk, HP. No answer from anyone. I do my work on Gimp. I lost all of my personal Gimp brushes and patterns. (my fault, didn't back up on new laptop yet) Please guide me. I am creative but computer tech challenged...

mambus:

I notice there is a 64 bit version. Don't know if that's what you were using.

Note also that it says -
Warning: this is an experimental version and will only run on x64 Windows.

Re: gimp

Hi mambus,

you could try installing it again, then uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller on Advanced mode, this will hopefully get rid of any files leftover that are causing the problem. Reboot, then re download it, right click properties and Unblock if it says it there, and install. See if it still gives you the problem then. You might also try running it as an administrator (right click on the gimp shortcut - properties - compatibility - check Run as admin/ok).

Re: gimp

Thank you. Now I went to revo and read
"64 bit operating systems are NOT supported"
Can you tell me if there is another version? I am the admin. on my laptop..
I wish I had known more (or something)about x64 when I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago.
I am grateful I found your group!

Re: gimp

I know Revo says that and no, I don't know of another that works as good, but it will probably still work, have you tried it? I'm running x64 and I use it, it works.

Yes, you are the administrator, but did you follow my instructions and run the gimp program itself as administrator?
