Vista - itunes won't work

Hi all i cannot get itunes to start up it just says "this program has stopped working windows is searching for solution".It cant find one and apple is no help any hint's would be helpfull or any program that will let me put songs on an i pod shuffle

Did iTunes ever work or just stop?
What version of iTunes are you using?
- Did you download the 64 bit version?
Have you tried to remove iTunes and reinstall it?
Have you tried contactin Apple Support (Apple - Support - Apple Expert) they will call you and are usually pretty helpful.

i instaled 64 bit version and it never worked.I tried reinstalling it and it made no difference.Have only tried solutions from ther web site and a few things that have been suggested on various web sites will try contacting apple thanks

Did you go to itunes website and download the 64-bit version? I have Vista x64 and have never had an issues with itunes not working. In fact, I have it set as my default music player.
