Cannot install anything

Hi,

I am having problems trying to install anything from applications like microsoft office to cs3 flash... :S

When i click on setup, the user account control window appears asking for permission to setup, I press continue and then the setup window appears but then immediately closes. It doesn't even begin to install ...

I've tried running it running it as administrator, i've tried deleting previously installed applications that may have caused disruption and i've even tried installing them whilst in safe mode but nothing seems to work.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated ....

EU

goto start>control panel>system control panel>advanced settings>performance settings>DEP tab

Whats the current setting?

then go into event viewer (type event viewer in search) go to th windows log, applications tab. look for errors (they have red "X" in the left column) and see if there are event ID 1000 (application crash) source 100 listed.

Let me know the results

Re: Cannot install anything

Hi, thank you for you quick reply.

The current setting is "Turn in DEP for essential Windows programs and services only".

In relation to the results there are plenty errors

Re: Cannot install anything

They were Application Errors, EventID 1000, doesn't give any specific application details.

Re: Cannot install anything

When did you first notice this problem? Had you just installed software, Windows upgrade or hardware?
Do you have SP2 installed?
Do you have virus scanner installed? If yes, TEMPORARILY disable and try install
Can you install from safe mode?
Run from elevated command prompt c: sfc /scannow
Did you start installation and have a failure when this first happened?
