Linking Problems

I recently switched from an XP machine to a Vista machine (yes, I am an old newbie). I retained most of my programs. However, they do not behave the same. In particular, under XP if I did a Ctrl-Click on a link (e.g., table of contents page in MS Word) I would be moved to the link target. However, under Vista I get the message "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effecxt on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

Since I am the system administrator, and only user, on this machine, this doesn't he;[ much.

I assume it has something to do with some security setting in Vista but have been unable to figure out where or how to "fix" it.

Any help would be appreciated.

A lot of programmes act differently on Vista, than under previous systems. Have you checked for updates and what the programme developers say about the programmes you are installing on your new system?

Thanks for the suggestion.

Most of my problems seem to relate to MS office related products (Word 2007, OneNote 2007, etc). I regularly install MS updates to these programs and have looked to see if the problem is reported elsewhere, but the problem persists.

I have had problems with MS Office before and it got to the stage where I uninstalled the programme and reinstalled it. Are you getting any error messages?

Lancelot:

Yes, I consistently get the message: "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

My assumption has been that the program I am running is trying to jump to the link but the OS is preventing the jump because of some security option set. I am new to VISTA and have no idea of what "restriction" the message is referencing.

Again thanks for any help you can give.

I have a three machine license for Office 2007 home and student edition. When I loaded the new machine with it, I had to call MS. I explained to them that the old machine died due to multiple HW failures and they gave me a code to activate it on the new machine. I have assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that that should be it.

Thanks.
