Windows Movie Maker - No Video with .AVI Files!

Hey all... I've tried basically everything in the book and I am getting VERY frustrated. I took HD videos on my Canon and when I wanted to edit them I found out WMM doesn't support .MOV. Okay, so I got Quicktime Pro and exported the videos as .AVI's so I could edit them in WMM. I import the .AVI into WMM and now there's no video!!! Just a black screen when played.

I downloaded the program "gspot" that tells you if there's any codec required. I have all the codecs needed for this file. These videos play fine in Windows Media Player, etc.

I used a USB stick and transferred the video to my other laptop. The .AVI works fine on that one! But I lose too much quality in the video through the transfer to do anything with it.

I am running Windows Vista and my WMM version is 6.0. Please help!!

Quicktime is Apple product. Right ?
What comes out from Apple application understandably may not work with Microsoft. And there are different " types " of avi.

How about google for a FREE video converter and change your video file to WMV format. WMV is the best, reliable and foo-proof format for Windows.
I use Prism. Bit there are many more free video converters. Pick one to your liking.

Have you tried converting the Files with a Video converter?

here is a Free Video converter (After trial has ended Downgrade to free version by Running the Uninstaller)

See Video Converter Software. Convert avi wmv mpeg mov & other video formats For more Information

Also you may want a codec to see so WMP and WMM Can read the .AVI File

I Recommend DivX Codec

See DivX Plus Codec Pack For more Information

Also With your Video Converter make sure you know were the Output folder is and Change the Coder to .WMV

Hope This Helps,
Josh
