Solved itunes wont open

Right click on the shortcut icon and click on properties. It should show a target location where the actual file is located.

Go to Start / Computer / and follow the path to that actual file and click on it to see if iTunes opens when you click the actual program startup file. If so, then create a new shortcut and see if that one works any better. If the program file itself can't open iTunes, then something is definitely wrong. First try to reboot and try again to see if that makes any difference. If not, then something most likely went wrong with the installation and I would suggest you uninstall iTunes using Revo Revo Uninstaller Freeware - free software download and software review - uninstall and clean-up utility from SnapFiles in Advanced mode but be careful to only delete the suggested entries you KNOW are related to iTunes - if in doubt, leave it alone. Then download a fresh copy and save it to the desktop. Right click on it and click Run as Administrator to install it. Then see if it works.

I hope this helps. If you have the same problem after doing this, then I recommend you follow djcp129's advice and seek assistance from people who have more expertise in iTunes.

Good luck!

I don't think so if you mean the shortcut file. It should show the full path to the itunes startup .exe file. Go to the iTunes startup .exe file and right click on it and click on create shortcut (desktop). Then go to the desktop and see if this new shortcut opens iTunes. If so, delete the other shortcut and use the new one that works.

If this doesn't work, follow the rest of the suggestions in my prior post.

Good luck!

What version of Itunes are you using for there has been a lot of cases with Itunes 9 not opening on Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Start iTunes in Safe Mode

Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any interference from plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.

  1. Hold down Shift–Control while opening iTunes. You should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
  2. Click Continue.
  3. See if the issue you're experiencing persists in Safe Mode.

If you have the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the "Create a new user account" section. If you don't experience the same issue, follow these steps to remove third-party plug-ins.
