Solved Acronis True Image Headaches

I'm running Vista Home Premium with SP2 and all current updates on hardware that exceeds any and all minimum system requirements for any applications that I have run across. An occasional memory dump I get when I plug in a USB drive or card reader seems to be related to my uninstalling Acronis True Image Home 10. It left behind two registry entries and a driver relating to their "Try & Decide" feature (tdrpm228.sys). When any one of these are removed, the machine won't boot and I have to use my recovery disk to get back to the last restore point.

I've Googled dozens and dozens of sites, including Acronis itself but can't find the answer. I've checked msconfig, services and system startup but can't find any reference to anything relating to Acronis. The registry values are in HKLM\System\ControlSet 001 and 002. Where in the startup sequence is the reference to Acronis and how do I eliminate it? I've made screen prints of the keys that I could post if that would be helpful.

Hi,

Look here for a potential fix: -

It appears that the clean up utility left some version 2009 traces on your machine which caused this boot failure.
I am glad that you have a valid backup. I can recommend the following workaround then:
Please open the registry editor and find the following keys -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} - select this key and in the right pane you will have an entry called Upper Filters. Right click on it and select modify. There will be a couple of entries there, make sure to delete only the one called tdrpman228
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} - please do the same as above.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\tdrpman228 - simply delete this key.

Lottiemansion, took another look at the 71a27... key. There was no upper filter but there was a lower filter with a tdrpmn228 value. I deleted it and then deleted the tdrpmn228 value under \services. Vista booted and a registry search no longer returns any tdrpm entries. Thank you. Now I'm going to delete the driver and see what happens.

Lottiemansion, deleted the tdrpm.sys and Vista boots just fine. Must have been that LowerFilter entry. It looks like I'm finally free of Acronis (and QuickTime, but that's another story)
