Unable to send or recieve emails

A week or so ago, Windows Live Mail stopped working for me. I was unable to send or receive emails, and the problem still occurs. Also, when I try to delete some messages, Windows Live Mail simply stops responding. This has become a very annoying problem for me, as I have to go into my browser, and view/send my emails from Hotmail. This is the first time I have ever encountered this problem. Any insight would be appreciated.

Actually, it appears that I can receive emails now. No idea how it happened, but it worked. Sending them is still a problem though. Also, I haven't made a system restore point for a while now.

When I look at the bottom left of the window, it says "Connecting..." and "Working Online", instead of the usual message (Can't recall what it was). I just might switch clients.

Sounds like the problem may be with the email provider; maybe a problem with their servers.
Try another client, at least as a test.

Doubt it with hotmail.

Have you tried redoing the account?

Maybe a change in server happened.

Patonb could very well be correct with the servers. It was my intention that changing clients, would answer 2 questions; problem with the server or problem with your client.

Okiedug,
You have the wrong incoming server name. The error message told you to check the server name.
It is..... pop.east.cox.net ....... not .....pop3.east.cox.net

That is why it says " The host 'pop3.east.cox.net' could not be found. " There is no such incoming host.

My Computer

Adding....

To change the incoming server name .....

There is a slight difference in procedure between Windows Live Mail 2009 and 2010 versions.

I am giving the 2009 version procedure :
Open WLM > Tools > Accounts > highlight your cox.net account > Properties > Server tab... there you can change the Incoming Mail(POP3) to pop.east.cox.net
