Outlook 2007 Won't Open

Cannot open Outlook normally for the past 2 days. Receive the following error message on desktop: "MS Office Outlook has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".

All Windows updates are installed. This problem seemed to coincide with installation of "Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597" - update history shows 2 failed and 3 successful (???) installations of this update.

I've conducted 2 different System Restores and have attempted several of the suggestions that I've found in various forums; none have worked. Have not attempted an uninstall/reinstall but am willing to try it.

Am able to open in Safe Mode. Am running Vista 64-bit Home Premium SP2. Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated.

I would follow these instructions

If that does not work
I would try in safe mode. If it does not work report back. If it does work, get out of safe mode and try with a clean boot to solve.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Had attempted this once before but will run it again. Was reluctant to address pages and pages of "possible" issues for a single problem that didn't exist 2 days ago and now does.

Forgot to mention that once I attempt to open Outlook, a miniature icon appears in the lower right of my screen but the program doesn't open. Only after I attempt a 2nd open does it fail.

Just a suggestion :

Start > in the search box, type outlook.exe /resetnavpane > press Enter.

Note : there is a space between " exe " and " / "
It is better to copy/paste the command line to avoid typo.

Sorry but this didn't work. I received the same response. Outlook tries to start up then shuts down.
