Hello Keith and welcome to the forums

Windows Media Player is built in to Windows and cannot be uninstalled/reinstalled. I have written you a batch file to disable the WMP services and to check your system for problems, here is the code:

Code:
@ECHO ON

sc stop ehRecvr
sc config ehRecvr start= manual
sc stop ehSched
sc config ehSched start= manual
sc stop WMPNetworkSvc
sc config WMPNetworkSvc start= manual

sfc /scannow

Please download the attached batch file to your desktop and run it as an administrator

cheers mate!!!
would the ability to update music track info be affected with this batch file?

after the batch file finished, is it normal that its window closed?? cause like i was on other thing with my pc when the batch file is verifying and scanning, but when i returned my attention back to it, it disappeared.

and if one day for some odd reason want to reactivate the networking service config, is there a way to do so??
many thanks!!

No problem :) Sorry, what do you mean by update a music track?

I've written you a new batch file to start the services again:

Code:
@ECHO ON

sc start ehRecvr
sc config ehRecvr start= manual
sc start ehSched
sc config ehSched start= manual
sc start WMPNetworkSvc
sc config WMPNetworkSvc start= manual

pause

It is normal for the windows to close automatically on the last batch file, I have added the pause command to this one to prevent it from going without you saying so

The services are set to start manually which means that if you run WMP then they'll be started again, just in case they don't, then run the attached batch file :)

Tom

P.S. Thank you for the rep

thank you once again for the new codes!!

oh, about the music thing, I was just worry that when i am ripping my favorite album into mp3, i was afraid WMP would not be able to obtain info from the net, like the name of each tracks, composers and writers and so on so forth....

many thanks!!

My Computer

No problem, glad I was able to help :)

That data is stored on the CD itself so you don't need to connect to the net to obtain this. When you rip a CD, WMP will take the files and fill in the ID3 tag (artist, album etc.) for the song from data on the disc. The services are set to manual start, which means that when you start WMP, they will be started :)

I have marked this thread as solved

Hi,

Try the fix in Post No. 7: -

Reinstall Windows Media Player in Vista?

Go to Start - > Type Run in the Search Box - > type regsvr32 wmp.dll

This fixed my issue I have been having for a long time. Please let me know if that helps anybody fix their corrupted WMP11 in Vista.
