An error occurred during installation of assembly component

Hello Everybody,

I've been having the same problem for a very long time. I'm trying to install iTunes for my iPod, but these messages keep on coming up and cancelling the installation:

- The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed (somehow solved today)
- There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. (I managed to solve this)
- An error occurred during installation assembly component. <-- this is my problem. I don't know how long I'm already looking for a solution for this problem, but nothing seems to work. I have already done a full virus- and anti-malware scan.

So I was hoping that you guys would come with the solution for my problem?

Kind Regards,
VistaExplorer

P.S. I tried to copy iTunes from my brother on a USB-stick to my laptop, but that doesn't help either.

here's one possibility- Office 2010 wont install keep Getting Error 2908 then 1935

Note that if you have .net framework 3.5 or 4 shown as installed in Control Panel, you can choose to uninstall them. When you do, you will be given the option to Repair them. If so, run the repair.

Again, this is just a possibility.

Thanks for you answer. So do you think that I should uninstall .net framework 3.5 or 4, and replace it with .net framework 2?

BTW, in my control panel it says that .net framework 3.5 SP1 is installed, and .net framework 4 Client Profile as well :S

My Computer

No. You don't want to uninstall 3.5 and 4. In addition, I believe 3.5 uses 2.

In control panel, click on the 3.5 entry and then uninstall, you should get two options. Select the Repair option. Do the same for 4.0.

So I selected the repair option, I had to restart my computer, and ran the iTunes-Installer again, but the same message came again

Is there any other idea that might help?

Just wonder- you're trying to install the itunes software. Is it written for Windows or MaC?

Are you using the 64 bit version of iTunes? Supposedly this is a forum for 64 bit versions. There is a 32 bit and 64 bit version.

Have you tried "run as administrator".

I assume you're using the 32 bit installer because you have 32 bit Vista.

You could try disabling anti-virus and it's security features. You could also try turning off User Access Control and, possibly, Windows Defender.

Sorry I'm so late in responding. I had to get a pedicure today :) and then got tied up in another forum.

I believe you should use the x86 version. I don't think you need to uninstall the old version.

Bad news, again. When I double-click on the just downloaded file, the error 0xc8000408 shows up, reading: an error occured.

Any ideas?

BTW, I don't mind if it takes a little long for you to respond, I'm happy that somebody is trying to help me :D

My Computer

Which anti-virus or security software do you have installed?

Do Windows updates install automatically?

This new problem is symptomatic of a bigger problem than just iTunes.

1: Comodo anti-virus
2: No, the Windows updates can't install automatically anymore, I can't get them to install either. Somehow the Windows Update Service disabled, and I can't enable it anymore. (I once got a message saying that I have to check the security of my computer).
3: I'm fearing that as well, because my computer keeps shutting down at random moments.

My Computer

A quick check on Comodo indicates it also includes a firewall.

My recommendation is to completely uninstall Comodo.

Run msconfig.exe. Look for anything Comodo in the Services and Startup tabs and disable them. Reboot.

The fact that your computer shuts down randomly is a larger subject which should be posted in a different subforum. I don't think that it is related to the subject of this thread or related to Comodo.

If Comodo is your only anti-virus program, you won't have one installed. However, if you're worried about that, download the free Microsoft Security Essentials first and install it. I really like it although I'm also running Norton System Premiere (not available anymore) despite the fact that it's not recommended to run two anti-virus programs at the same time.

Yes, restart your computer after you make the changes.

I was thinking about it after I posted the last time and thought that, if you can disable the Comodo firewall, you could try that first.
