i believe my vista cd is at my other residence (over an hr away), is there a way to download the recovery disk image?
any other ideas? can i do a system restore to when i first got the laptop?

at this point im seriously considering buying Windows 7 or getting my vista disc and reformatting. i have a 1TB external hard drive to save my important files

May be best , save anything important , use that upgrade program to see what is best for you .

i will! one last thing, on the Microsoft site i have the option to download it, download it and they ship a backup disc, or they can ship it. now in my particular situation, in which i need to reformat, do i need them to send the disc?

I would get the back up disk to have for " just in case " This upgrade should have complete instructions, I am just saying, get them to also send the disk to have on hand also .
