I am having problems with the free version of ‘Real Player’ it downloads and plays OK but the folder ‘Real Player Downloads ‘ does not respond properly and just about freezes to such an extent that it becomes unusable I tried to un install it but you are always left with a folder in (computer program files that will not delete) I have even done a DELL restore which restores your computer to the state it was in from new this did remove it but when re installed it went ok for a while then back to its old problematic self, All my updates are current, I do not know if the fault is with Real Player or Vista so I am seeking advice on:

Is the a way to fix it?

What is a good program for removing Real Player and programs such as this?

What is a good free video down load program that will handle more than one down load at a time. Thanks in advance

It took a while but I did manage to un install RealPlayer the normal vista remove system still leaves files in "Program Files" which caused the same problem but if you delete from this folder (you will be told that you cant do it) and then reboot you should be ok. so never again with that (RP) program I have installed VLC program and it is solid and much quicker. :D

VLC is good if it's stable on your system. Another player I found very good esp. for HD files is SPlayer Portable. Last time I tried the installed version it had some kinks when uninstalling. Might be fixed I dunno'. But I've been using the Portable version and I'm very happy with it. Plays .m2ts .mkv .mp4 .m4v just about everything. Plus it will try to automatically download srt subs. I watch a lot of foreign so sometimes that kicks in successfully. Sometimes not. :)

Miles, so far it is stable and so much quicker than Real Player about x20, there was a major VLC update yesterday which I installed will see how that goes, thanks for your suggested alternatives I have made note of them in case of any future problems.

VLC was my favorite player for years. Then when it hit around v. 1.0 it added PGS subtitle support and it would just disappear every time I moused over it. Drove me nuts. I hope it returns to its former dependability. Until then I have SPlayer.
