DriverMax

I downloaded and installed the free version of DriverMax because I am going to be trying to do an in-place upgrade of my Vista Home Premium 32-bit system. I wanted to save the drivers to my external hard drive.

I can not find where DriverMax has put the drivers. It almost appears as though they don't want you to be able to find them. I thought when I clicked the "Backup" tab it would ask me where I wanted to store them but it didn't.

Can anyone help?

Personally I wouldn't use a program like that. I recommend that you go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers.

Thanks to both of you.

I've already uninstalled DriverMax.

I went to that Gizmo link already and downloaded the Double Driver.

Also, can I just go to my driver file in my system, copy it and put it on my external for safe keeping?

Have you ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor? Download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from Official Microsoft Download Center

Have you searched Dell support forums to see if other DXP061 owners had any success? It didn't take me long to find a discouraging thread: Dimension 9200 DXP061 is not upgradable to Windows 7??! - Microsoft OS Forum - Software & Operating Systems - Dell Community. (Of course the final post from someone running 64-bit Windows 7 had to be a clean install, not an in-place upgrade.) I would make an image before attempting to upgrade.

Thank you for your answer. I had already run the update adviser. The only item on it was this:
Intel(R) 82566DC Gigibit Network Connection
Action recommended: Before installing Windows 7 go to device manufacturer's website to download the latest driver for this device. After installing Windows 7 install the saved driver.

I was advised I could upgrade to 32-bit Windows 7 Home premium or Ultimate. Because I want to do in-place upgrade I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium.

Also, on the link you included, the person posting was definitely having trouble, but the answer seemed to me to be saying that there should be no reason that the upgrade would not work. Maybe the problem was specific to his/her situation. I don't think the post indicates that this particular Dell computer in general is not upgradable. Anyway, I guess I will find out.

I do have Genie Timeline and should have a full backup of my entire computer on my external hard drive. I'll be checking that out to try and make sure everything is in order before I attempt this.

ilikefree: I can't follow this link: c:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Innovative Solutions\DriverMax\Agent\Downloaded Drivers

I go to C and there is no Documents and Settings.

That's because you're not running XP. I sometimes doubt that any of the gurus here are actually running Windows Vista. Unfortunately I don't know what point ilikefree was trying to make, but it probably doesn't matter if you have uninstalled DriverMax. Good luck with your upgrade!
