Re: need help with audio

Okay, this is starting to get into the realm of the very strange. If you look in your hardware manager, is there another sound driver?

There's a built in microphone and webcam (if I remember right) on your computer, so what I'm starting to think is that your microphone might be tied to something different sound card. Sounds stupid, I know, but it is possible. In that case, we need to track down what is controlling the microphone.

If you can post a picture of the image that shows the microphone with the little green bars that go up and down, that'll help tremendously in determining if that's what is going on.

Under device manager there is only one area that says “Sound, video and game controller” when I click the “+” sign, there are two speaker icons both are labeled “Realtek high Definition Audio”.

Also, which screenshot do you want with the new driver or the original one? The pc reinstalls the original drivers when I restart it.

Re: need help with audio

I've got to admit, now I'm completely baffled. The fact that the Toshiba people don't think it is possible wasn't enough to deter me, but now I'm thinking they may have set it up so you can't (how stupid would that be?).

Chances are this won't really help or work, but you may want to try calling Realtek support. Theoretically, they should know how to work their cards, right?

As an interim solution (though not really positive), I do have a way you could completely trick this. It's not good, but it's an option. You could get a couple of mini-plug splitters. You could have one split the wire from the guitar so that you could run one wire to the computer and the other directly to a combiner (might be different than splitter? don't remember) that you would hook up at the speaker to combine the sound from the computer with the sound from the guitar. Not nice, but maybe an option? I don't like it though.

In other news, if you plan on doing high-quality recording on your computer, you're probably going to want to consider a better solution than using a laptop's onboard sound card. If you need advice on that, let me know.

That was exactly what I didn't want to see. Definitely from the same card/drivers. There's something else wonky going on here. Either Toshiba is going to have to cough up a real expert for you, or you'll have to talk to Realtek.

Best of luck. Please, let us know how it turns out.

I guess that I have no other choice, no offense. I'm just wary, I'm sure that you understand.

Just tell me what to do.
