| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Vista 32 popping sound I too am experiencing a randomly (apparently) timed popping sound. It does sound like the audio cue from a pop-up blocker (pretty sure ads-gone once used it), but it is different from the one provided in the .wav file at the beginning of this thread. The question for me here is, "How can I determine the source of a sound?" Which application/process is sending or generating this to audio_out? Can a log for such things be generated? I actually searched for all *wav and *mp3 files on my vista 64 pc and listed to the ones that were shorter than a few seconds. No luck. Browsed all the offerings in the Sounds section of the control panel as well. No match. I have to assume the sound data is generated on the fly by whatever app is the culprit here. I also tried keeping a record of the times the sound is heard and then cross referencing this list to event timestamps found in the event viewer. No joy. Turns out, this is a great annoyance :-) Can anyone assist with relief? Am I missing some gem in another forum? Searching for "popping" often yields other real issues related to playback quality, which is a seperate kettle of fish. Many thanks in advance - Perry (Heard two "pop!" sounds while writing this |

| Vista Ultimatex64 Windows 7 build 7100 | Re: Vista 32 popping sound I think most of these popping noises are most probably caused by a lack of electromagnetic shielding, Mansrm's answer is very close to the mark, these noises can be caused by any electrical devices a typical example that most people should know is caused by a Mobile Phone to close to the Hifi or PC Various answers, would be to change the speakers, move the PC, try a different wall outlet or to shoot the hairdryer. Turning down the sound will in most cases not work as the onboard speaker will also be affected. For the rest, have you tried to scan for malware? |
