Those cheaper ones are probably directional microphones. But they should work.
I use a logitech headset & mic (comes with two jacks) and it works quite well for my needs. So...the mic for you depends on what you want to use it for...of which we could only but guess |

I want to use a microphone with webcam and incredimail program for the kids.. The one I tried was at walmart for $8.88, a stand up w/base that could fold up for use and down when not in use. I not sure how a ear piece or head set would work, it should work just like a regular mic. I'm guessing. thanks for the input. Brand name and tech info is what I am looking for.
