I'm running the newest one without too many problems. I may also have a solution to the squeal of death, if you get that (I want to give it a few more days before I get too excited). What were your problems specifically?

My Computer

I got BSOD everytime I tried to install a the newest driver...and for some odd reason I didn't get any sound out of any of the other drivers between 2.13.0012 up till the newest one. (4 or 5 i believe)

Odd. The only thing I can think of there is an issue with the chipset. I've read about a lot of conflicts between nVidia chipsets and Creative cards. Still, you've got a working solution, so no reason to argue with success, right?

In the meantime, here's a bit of a reputation boost for posting a solution.

if I have more solutions for any other problem I'll post those too... right now I'm fidling with some forcefeedback issues with my Logitech momo steering wheel...

I downloaded the latest driver for it and got "lgs502_x64.exe is not a valid WIn32 application"

oddly enough I dl'd the x64 version and I'm running Vistax64

How strange, I've always updated to the latest Creative drivers and haven't had any hitches in any version.

This is funny as heck. When i first started the computer build from hell, I almost had my system running until I installed my sound card. I possess an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatality Pro that I am still deciding whether to take back or try to instal now that my system SEEMS to be working (I have questions on that, but that is another thread lol). After spending a couple of hours researching the issue on Creatives forums and other places, I am no closer to a decision. The creative forums are filled with horror stories and no resolutions. On this thread the results seem to be mixed. So "eh wots the deal"? The mixed opinions and experiences seem like "several species of small furry animals, gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict." (forgive the old pink floyd references lol). Should I attempt the installation and the possible (probable?) meltdown? Or should i just say screw it and get my money back?

Roadrage: when you used the old drivers, did it fix the myriad of other problems of features not working as well, or did you just get some sound?

DC187: you are the first person I've read that had absolutely no problems. All your control panels, 5.1, CMSS, and stuff up to the 96MHz range work? How about the SPDIF?

EDIT: Oh and I'm using evga's version of the nVidia 790i ULTRA SLI that has the Reatek audio onboard (HD, not the 97).

Well, mine is working just fine. But, I've got an AMD southbridge, so who knows? Took me awhile to figure out what I was doing wrong, but once I did...smooth sailing.

Your card is good enough and new enough that you have no feature loss.

Ok, you convinced me lol. What do I have to lose except 2 more weeks of blood sweat and tears if it blows up and I have to re install everything? At least now I have a small idea of what I am trying to do. But you have to answer two questions lol.

One: Where on the sound card do you plug the SPDIF from the vid card? I don't remember if the Radeon you are using has SPDIF (I have the same card in my "old" computer lol) so I hope you can answer. (NON)Technical Support at Creative could not answer it.

TWO: Did you have to go into BIOS and up the voltage on the PCI slot where you installed the sound card? I read somewhere that it may be necessary to do so with two vid cards.

@ Bubba - It basicly fix all my problems ever with the feature loses. I had read in some obscure thread I googled(don't remember where...) that someone had gone backwards from the newest driver in the same fashion I did. A few others had responded that it had work for them as well. The site i refer to in my first post you can find "all" the older drivers for testing.

In regards to the reinstallment of you pc after a meltdown... what I did for testing was to use the system restore... works like a charm!

Alright, let's see what I can do for you here:

1) I've never used SPDIF, though that may have possibilities in the future. I don't believe my current cards support that. Still, here's a picture from newegg.com that should answer the "where" part of it: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

2) In BIOS, I haven't changed voltage to my PCI slots. Actually, my BIOS had an option for increasing current (which, if my limited Electrical Engineering serves me, would have the same net effect) which I ended up disabling (though re-enabling it may come in the future). I did have to change my PCI latency to 96. On other values, I would get the "Screech of Death" you may have read about elsewhere. But, so far, I've had a little over a week without that issue, so I assume it's taken care of.

That's a nice rig you've got there. I doubt you'd have to reinstall everything; if you don't do anything weird with your installation, even if you decide to take the card out, it should be pretty quick.

Good luck.

Thanks dudes, after I take my little girl to a "play date" with one of her friends I'll come back and wreak havoc on civilized computing as we know it by installing Mr. Soundblaster.

I kinda figured that AUX in was the place to put the SPIDF but they couldn't confirm at Creative. I dion't know why I'm worried about it lol, it's not like I have ever used the feature before or even know what it is. I'm just anal and like all the little wires to go in the right spots.

RR, did you do any of the other back updates? I found a bunch of them on creatives' site that addressed different issues and features of the cards individually. Poor little fellers are trying, (very trying, they have tried the last nerve of many formerly loyal customers if I read their forums correctly), but it seems that all they have done is run off the one guy, Dahiel, that was fixing their products and helping their customers for free.
