CDs won’t rip?

I am trying to rip my first CD and something is going wrong. Every time I load a CD I get this error message:
"E:\
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel."
I am running Windows Vista. I downloaded the music management program MediaMonkey, then I tried to rip and got the error message. I reset my defaults to Windows Media Player and closed MediaMonkey and I continue to get the same error message.
P. S. Ultimately I want to rip from audio books CDs and play books on an iPod.

If you can help—Thanks
