Help

Read my sig below to see what I have, my sound levels intermittently go up and down, not much but its noticeable when playing music loudly. I have already disabled all sound effects, switched plugs from back panel to front, and tried different speakers and it does only in WMP, every enhancement is off except for the EQ which didn't change anything anyway. Thanks!

HP A6300F, Vista Home Premium 32, Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180, 4GB Ram, 500GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 7100/ NVIDIA nForce 630i, Realtek High Definition Audio Sound Card.

Re: Help

Perhaps a ridiculous question, but how many of these sounds were recorded exactly the same way.

Many programs have volume equalizers, but I think WMP still makes that optional. There is a lot of volume variety in recording, so that'd be my first hunch.

Re: Help

Its not when I record, it only happens during playback, and I have un-selected all of the options, I think WMP doesn't like my sound card or something, Itunes works perfect.

Re: Help

Oh, I think you misunderstood me. It's not when you record. Different producers and sound technicians use different volume levels when they record music professionally.

For example, if I go from my Beach Boys - Pet Sounds album to my Black Crowes - A Tribute to a Work in Progress, I have to change volume levels because of what the standard was in different eras.

So, if you're finding the difference from artist to artist (or even album to album), it may just be that the sound was originally recorded differently. You could try that theory out by playing the music from the CDs in a normal CD player or a DVD player that isn't hooked up to the computer.

Like I said, one of the things some people really like about iTunes or Creative Media Source is that the software does a pretty good job of amplifying sound in the background for you so that you aren't constantly playing with your volume knob.

I hope that makes more sense.

Re: Help

If Itunes works and WMP does not, that points to a setting in WMP. Have you got a hidden setting like volume limiting or any other setting designed to stop to much volume getting to the speakers?
