Re: Front Panel Audio

Hi skallz and welcome to the forums

This might sound like a daft question, but are you sure that the front panel is connected internally? There have been cases where it has not. Another thing - do your headset and microphone actually work? Check by using the sockets at the rear of your PC. You can check the front panel sockets (at least the one for audio out) by temporarily plugging your ordinary speakers in. Sorry that I can't help you any further other than with these suggestions, but if you require further assistance don't hesitate to ask. If you can reply with some more details, i.e. make and model of motherboard and also your soundcard (if it is not the on-board solution) then I will see what I can come up with for you.

Re: Front Panel Audio

Hi skallz,

Thank you for the extra information. When you use a sound card, the on-board audio solution is automatically disabled, so it would appear that the most likely cause of your problem would probably be that your front panel audio is connected to the wrong header. I have checked the manuals for your motherboard and sound card, and both use the same header for the front panel. It should, therefore, be a relatively easy matter to unplug the audio cable from your motherboard and connect it to the relevant header on your sound card. The items in red indicate the location of the headers - JAUD1 for your motherboard and item 10 for your sound card. Refer to your manuals for more information on these headers.

Re: Front Panel Audio

Hi skallz,

The 'AUX IN' header on your sound card is like the 'CD_IN1' header on your motherboard. They are used for connecting your optical drive to the sound circuitry via an analogue cable so that you can play audio. This method is analogue - modern systems don't use this method and can instead transfer audio data over the main IDE/SATA interface, so this cable is no longer required, although it won't do any harm if it is installed.
