No sound

Hi

I have on-board sound chipset by Realtek ALC888, I installed The driver from the Motherboard cd (vista drivers cd) and no sound, i tried to get the latest versions from this forum and still the same problem, I tried even plugging the cable in different ports in the back panel and still its a mute system !

Everything is fine on XP, i don't know what to do, Should i get a new sound card or new speakers

Re: No sound

Hello CB, an welcome to Vista Forums.

Did you install the audio driver twice and restart the computer after each time? Once to uninstall the old driver version, and twice to install the new version. If this was from a clean install of Vista, then you may only need to install it once though.

Hope this helps,

Re: No sound

Thanks Brink for your reply

I uninstalled the current version of Realtek HD driver from control panel, restarted ,then installed the new driver i downloaded from Realtek site "vista_r202" twice, and restarted everytime. Here is the current situation

I can't find Realtek system tray icon, in Device manager under sound there is "High definition audio device" , the driver date is 21/06/2006 and version is
6.0.6000.16386

And still no sound

Re: No sound

Install the HD Audio driver only one more time, and restart the computer to see. You may have done it one to many times before.

After the restart, you should see the orange/red speaker icon in the bottom right corner of your taskbar for the Realtek HD Audio Manager when clicked on.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: No sound

Well i finally found the icon of Realtek HD audio manager, and still no sound , My main concern now is that a lovely blue screen pops up approximately 2 minutes after startup then a restart occurs. It says something like "fault non paged area" bla bla bla

I entered safe mode but couldn't uninstall the driver from control panel, I'm now back on XP and apparently forever

Re: No sound

CB,

That is usually associated with RAM problems. As a test you might test with only one stick installed at a time to see if one does not work properly.

You can also run the Memory Diagnostic Tool to see if it can find anything wrong with the RAM.

Memory Diagnostics Tool

Hope this is not a case of bad RAM.

Re: No sound

But if something wrong with ram, How come everything is fine in Windows xp, and if there is a problem with a malfunctioning ram could that affect sound ?

I'm trying the memory diagnostic tool in safe mode.

Re: No sound

Ok I'm really sorry for taking this whole time from you trying to solve my problem, But right now The latest driver is installed just like here in your link

http://www.vistax64.com/sound-audio/...er-update.html

Shouldn't i plug the cable into the black socket (rear speaker out) ? Is there anything i should change in control panel

Re: No sound

CB,

On my board, it is the green jack (Front Speakers Out) from the back of the computer that the speakers plug into.
