Acer Aspire 5100 laptop running Vista Home Premium. No sound from Internal speakers. Works with external headphone jack. Uninstalled and reinstalled latest drivers. No conflicts, no muted volume controls. Volume up full.

Any ideas?

Did it just stop working? did it work before?
if so you could always roll back driver if a new one was installed and check your windows update if you have it turned on automaticly then it may have downloaded a bad up date lol you never know
if these answers never helped the only thing i would say to do is check your sound card and see if it is working properly even though the headphones work it still may be a problem

sorry i couldn't be of much help but i hope the little thigns i gave did some good

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I brought the laptop from Ebay.
It had a fresh install of Vista so no roll back option available. I updated all the Vista through auto updates. Uninstalled and reinstalled all drivers with latest updates (apart from bios as I will probably return it if I have no joy fixing it)

I can hear sounds quite clearly through the headphone jack - I thought it may be an issue with the auto switch between internal and external speakers (eg the daft op system thinks I have headphones in all the time!)

My other option I suppose is to completly reinstall Vista (or XP to see if they work)

I opened it up and all wires seem to be firmly attached although the hard drive wasn't fully seated.

Any more offers please?
