Line-in issues!

I have my xbox 360 running through a VGA adapter, and into the back of my monitor.

I then took the red/white audio cables and used an adapter to change them to a stereo jack input.

I placed this plug into the blue "line-in" slot in the back of my desktop. Vista recognizes the input but i don't know how to tell it to put it through my speakers. (my speakers work fine when im using my desktop).

Here's the pictures of my audio settings for:

line-in settings -

speaker settings -
(the green is from my music playing, not from the xbox... it recognizes the xbox input but none of it makes it to the speakers)

Thanks!

Have you tried anything else to see if another device works like a cd player. It should have done it automatically. Also what sound card do you have.

I just moved to a new place so i dont have anything to test it with right now... but everything was bought within the last 24 hours (computers 1 week old, Alienware).
I also figured that since that there`s green moving all over the place when i look at line-in, something has to be happening.

Also the green shown for speakers is because im listening to music right now...its not from the xbox :(

High-Definition 7.1 Performance Audio - Standard for now

wow heres a whole page of people with the same problem...

http://www.miguelcarrasco.net/miguelcarrasco/2006/12/vista_microphon.html

seems to be something to do with dell computers + vista.

When i click on speakers --> levels
its supposed to show "monitorinput" as one of the options...i have to unmute it to be able to hear my line in through my speakers. Maybe something to do with the audio driver in general...

This is the most promising solution ive seen so far

1) Press (WindowsKey)-R (to run a program)
2) Type regedit, press enter, and then click Continue (depending on your security settings)
3) Go to Edit - Find (or Ctrl-F)
4) Type EnableInputMonitor and click Find (or Find Next)
5) Double-click the EnableInputMonitor entry. It will come up as 0000 00. Change the 00 to 01 (so it's 0000 01). Do a Find Next just to make sure it's the only EnableInputMonitor registry setting on your system
6) Exit the Registry Editor and Restart the PC
6a) Wait for Vista's criminally long reloading time
7) Right-click the little Sigmatel Icon and select Playback Devices
8) Click SpeakersHeadphones and then Properties.
9) Under the Levels tab, there is now a new option called Input Monitor, which is muted. Click the speaker to unmute to Input Monitor, and the Line-In port now functions as expected I HAVE A SIGMA AUDIO TEL AND WIN VISTA HOME BASIC.. AND THE "EnableInputMonitor entry" WASN'T THERE SO YOU MUST CREATE IT :D .. THIS WAY...
1) Open regedit (Start->Run, type regedit)
2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings\filter\SpeakerHp\
3) Create a new Binary Value
4) Give it the name EnableInputMonitor
5) Set it's value to 01
6) Restart your machine
7) Open your Playback Devices (right click on volume control icon in system tray, select Playback Devices)
8) Open the Speakers/Headphones
9) Go to the levels tab
10) Unmute the input monitor
but when i navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings\filter\SpeakerHp\

i can only find up to 0000...my computer shows no "settings"

what to do next?
