Problem with switching from headphones to internal speakers

Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11S, and every time i remove my headphones all sound stops working unless i restart the programme, for instance i can be listening to something off itunes, unplug my headphones and the music pauses and won't play again unless i close and reopen it. This also happens with firefox, and i presume other applications, though i have yet to try this. This is a recent development, everything worked fine until a few days ago when i deleted some old programmes i dont use, games and suchlike. I'm pretty much certain i didn't delete anything vital, though i guess its a possibility. Is there anything i can do?

It sounds like its a jack sensing problem, what type of sound card do you have?
This information can be found by click Start>Right click Computer>Properties>Device Manager> Then click the "+" symbol next to Sound, Video and game controllers. The type of sound device you have should be located in there.

It says its a 'High Definition Audio Device' (Driver Version: 6.0.6000.16386), if thats what i was looking for? I tried updating the drivers and had no success.

My Computer

Sounds like just the default vista high definition audio driver.

There is a program called "Everest" that can further identify your sound device.
The download link is here:
Download Link 1
Download Link 2

Execute the program, on the right hand side there will be a list of devices, click the "+" next to multimedia, then click PCI/PnP Audio, and in the white box to the left it should display your true audio controller name.

Hi tw87,

Unfortunately, Sigmatel are elusive and difficult to find drivers for.
However, I found this on the Sony website: Vaio : Support
This is the most recent list of downloads for your laptop from Sony - the audio driver is SigmaTel Audio Driver 6.10.5614.0 dated 18/12/2007.
For convenience, here is a link to the original drivers from Sony: Vaio : Support
