| vista home premium 32bit | Realtek help I recently updated vista through the updates and ever since my realtek hd audio doesn't work. It says it's working in playback devices but when I go to do a sound test I get the error message 'Failed to play test tone'. I can't play anything through windows media player either. I can get the audio manager up but nothing there seems to help. I figured maybe my driver wasn't compatible after the windows update so I downloaded the latest driver from realtek and this still doesnt work. For realtek you need to basically run the driver setup twice, once to remove old drivers and again to update with the new one...now yesterday I only ran the setup once and my sound worked fine through the speakers however there was no realtek audio manager and it was no longer registered to realtek just microsoft under the heading high definition audio. Oh my realtek is the alc888s codec, not sure if that helps. Latest version is 6.0.1.5755. I'm so confused...anyone shed a light on the situation for me? Thanks. |

This was actualy quite ok, the microsoft driver works well. You just do not have the Realtek software installed when it is done like this. (This actualy works better for some people) But you still get the important functions by right clicking on the speaker icon in the task manager. To get back to this if you have reinstalled the Realtek software go to Control Panel, software, uninstall everything realtek and follow the instructions to reboot. I hope this helps Pooch |
