Audio Issue

Hello.

I'm running a PC using the ASUS A8V-XE motherboard, with an x64 processor. I recently installed Vista Ultimate, but I have no sound out of the green jack on the rear panel. When I hover over the speaker icon, it says Digital Output Device (SPDIF) and says it's working. However, I have no available speaker settings, and it's the only device under the playback devices.

I attempted to install RealTek drivers. They go through set up fine, and ask to restart. When I do, there's no app installed or any realtek item.

Is this motherboard incompatible or am I missing something else?

noobie welcome to the forums.

Right click on the speaker icon and select "Playback Devices", then click on Speakers and then click on "Set Default". That should get your speakers working.

There is also a good reason that the Realtek drivers don't appear to do anything, according to the specs for your motherboard,

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

it has the ADI/SoundMax audio, not Realtek. Try the driver linked to here (last post),

Might be a good idea to uninstall the Realtek driver if it is showing in Programs and Features before installing the SoundMax driver.
