Sound device not detected on vista 64 home premium

Hello,

I've just setup a new computer with vista but after installing, vista didn't detect any sound device.

I have an Asus Rampage II extreme board with the supreme fx audio module installed. HD sound is also activated in the BIOS.

What should I do?

Did you touch anything on your Bios prior to the Vista install or even afterwards? Perhaps you missed something and you disabled it?

What do you have on under your Device Manager/Audio options?

Have you installed the CD that came with your Motherboard yet? if not, do so or go over the Asus site and download the latest software for your mobo and install it.

I checked the bios and the onboard sound is enabled...

I have installed vista with the original CD... and I have installed all the drivers that came with the ASUS CD. Also, I downloaded the vista 64 drivers on the ASUS website... but when I try to install it I get an error message saying no device has been found.

Hi Nic,

Sorry about the delay, I am learning on this as I go  Your problems are probably being caused by the Video Cards HDMI output.
Apparently you can choose between your mobos sound and nVidia HD Audio by going to Control Panel - Sound

What you can also do is to have a look or even ask here;
NVIDIA Forums

I hope this helps Pooch

Thanks for the input. I'll investigate that way. But shouldn't vista at least detect the onboard sound?

And does that mean I could use my vid card as a soundcard?

When I go to the control panel it doesn't find any audio device whatsoever.

I think yes, It could be possible that your mobo sound is dead. You could try uninstalling the Video drivers then try to reinstall the sound drivers

As I understand it yes, connecting HDMI to a TV

When I go to the control panel it doesn't find any audio device whatsoever.

What do you have in Device manager?

The mobo is new you also have the RMA option at least get the dealer to check it

I have no sound device at all in the device manager.

RMA means I won't have my MOBO for a month at least.

WTF I have to RMA the memory AND the mobo. Talk about bad luck!

I have just noticed something, Your sound is not onboard like I was thinking but plugged in to the mobo. Have you tried taking it out and re-seating it??

If you have to RMA as I suggested. Then it would probably be just the sound card not the Motherboard

Yeah that's the first thing that I've tried when I noticed sound wasn't there. I'll call the place I purchased it from and I hope
they won't ask me to send the whole box back.

I've installed my ole Audigy 2 ZS wich is working perfectly...

Thanks for the help I think it's indeed RMA time

Hi

Have you installed the card in the black PCI-e slot, as it won't work in any of the other slots.
