when you did it did uninstall the driver reboot and than reinstall the driver.

try un-installing in normal rebooting into normal and than re-installing.

running out of ideas.

also do you have any extra speakers to try? if so plug those in and see if you get any sound.

i am thinking the sound card is bad. do you have an extra one to try with the speakers?

No but I had this problem a year ago and I cured it without any hardware change but never wrote down how!!

have you tried to update your drivers?

have you tried to uninstall them and than reinstall them?

You don't mention it, but did you check the options under the master volume popup you get when you click on the speaker in the systray to make sure mute isn't on ?
