Hdmi to lcd get video no audio

My setup is as follows:
HP S3330F Slimline W/Vista
Sony DN1000 A/V Receiver
LCD TV
I have the computer HDMI hooked to the receiver HDMI and the receiver HDMI output hooked to the LCD HDMI input.

I see Vista DESKTOP on the TV but do not have sound.
When I go into the Realtek HD Audio Manager I do not see an option to Choose Digital Output device HDMI. Bios does not have an HDMI choice. I tried driver updates did not work.

I have another Media Center PC. which I connected the same way the HP is connected I do get Video and Sound.

Any suggestions.

Did you set it to HDMI Out as the default playback device in the Windows playback properties?

I am not home right now but the only thing I can see on the screen above is
Speakers
Realtek HD Audio
Not Plugged IN
and
Realtek Digital Output
Reatek HD Audio
Working
I do not see a choice for HDMI or SPDIF.

What are you using for a video card? Reason for asking is according to the specs for your computer it comes with the 8500 GT, which will require a cable like this,

spdifcable-1.png

to be connected between teh SPDIF header on video card and the SPDIF header on the motherboard/sound card. Might be worth popping the side off the case and seeing if HP installed that cable.

I already looked at that and the cable is connected. I did not check if the cable is connected correctly pin 1 to pin 1.

I do not see the HDMI only the other two with the Realtek Digital output Checked. Maybe I should take the cable off. I have tried different drivers for the video card no help. I tried the hotfix from microsoft no help. I tried deleting video card and reinstalling no help. I just do not understand. Again as I said before I tried another Media PC Vista which has video and audio on the board and that one worked OK through the HDMI. So it is not the A/V receiver or the LCD TV. It is The HP computer. HELP HELP HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dont take the cable off, maybe your gpu doesnt support audio via HDMI or the adaptor you are using doesnt have the ability to transmit audio, could be a number of things.
but personally i think its a realtek issue, have a look in your device manager and see if theres anything that isnt installed, preferrably regarding audio, if there is something not installed, i can only suggest you download the latest HD audio drivers from realteks site and hopefully that will work.

The PC is an HP s3330F SLIMLINE that came with the HDMI on the NVIDA Geforce 8500 GT. So it is set up for HDMI. I have tried the driver route.

well, theres definately something we are missing, if your HDMI sound isnt showing up in windows, it must be a driver issue, something not installed correctly or along those lines...

OK eactly and no matter what I do I can not get the HDMI choice to show up. I am glad I am not the only one. Trax1963 what setup do you have. And what have you tried.

My Computer

Setup
Asus Striker extreme mobo
Point of View nVidia 8800GT
Soundmax card

8800 is not connected to Sound card in any way.
I have tried connecting but no dice...
No matter what I try to do no HDMI in Sound Properties...

When my computer was put together I'd expect it to be all working!
Some engineers aint got a clue!

My Computer

HDMI Driver missing....

What seems to be the problem on my computer is that when I install the sound card driver it does not give me an option to select HDMI. This works with an ATI card as the sound is built in to their cards.

So choices are buy new soundcard with HDMI compatible driver..(I would not know of any soundcard that would supply this).
Buy new Video card with Built in soundcard (expensive)!
Somehow figure out which cables couple up the sound card to (Aaarrgghh can't be bothered with that)!

So will try new soundcard......
