well the empty space on the volume mixer window-why is it ?
i tried to resize it as well -but upon reopening it becomes large again.

Thats the normal size it should be:

It's that size by default for your available default "Volume Mixers". It cannot be changed as far as I know of. :(

what do you mean available default "Volume Mixers" ? on both pictures there are only 2 applications- why the 1st is larger then the other?

Sorry, I meant any future available ones. For example, a microphone, digital output, other speakers, etc.......

Yeah i have one empty space but im not fussed! its the way its designed mabye there was a update or somin that changed it!

It looks like a programming error in Windows. The programmers did not include the part of the code that resizes the window automatically

Well, that or they programmed it to have 4 spaces displayed by default. It's also the same way in Vista as well as in Windows 7. :(

That was a statement by me based on observation. Vista and Windows 7 both seem to have space for 4 volume levels by default. ;)
