Sound suddenly stopped working.

My sound was working earlier today. I was listening to music on youtube, and paused it in order to read something off a different website. When I went to re-play the song, my sound had suddenly stopped working.

I've tried system restore and updating drivers. Everything seems to be working correctly, but no sound will play. There are no errors in regards to the driver, card, or playing sounds.

However, when I go to the sound mixer and there is a sound playing, no green line will appear indicating volume. Same if I click on the mixer and adjust the volume.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks.

Hi,
Samething happened to me and I too have re-installed drivers. Difference I have is that I get message "C:Windows\system32\dssend.dll" and in Media player notice says "is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using original installation"...which I did but still the same. I also ger the dssend.dll message in some incoming e-mail stating picture is poor quality.....when it is not. All this happenned out of the blue, I had not installed any new programmes or devices. Anyone got any clues to resolve please.:(

Thats quite odd. Do you play your sound through the computer or is it connected to your speakers. If it's connected to your speakers it s quite possible that the speaker cable has broken. The only way to fix that would be to buy a new speaker cable.

Hi Mike,
No I have no external speakers connected, it's all within the PC. So far most advice points to corrupt file with only solution so far is to re-install factory fitted systems but sounds very drastic and I could lose files even though I have back-up. What bugs me is it could be a simple matter of a recent Vista update from Microsoft which has not registered correctly or something. I'm aware of "dssen.Dll" fix web sites who charge but I'm concerned about paying the money and still having the problem. It's a shame Microsoft don't have a solution as the problems seems within Media Player if I'm to believe the error messages. I've already re-installed the system audio drivers...all confirm working. May have to just put up with no sound.
