Left-click that little speaker icon on the bottom right.

Click on "mixer."

The various open "Applications" should all have the same levels or however you want them. Experiment with the faders to see how they work; they actually work really well for keeping your specified settings across applications.

Hello ,
I am new here and hope to fit in . Now to my ? , I have the same problem as the OP and all I can add is that my wife's profile plays all sounds normally . I have tried all the above mentioned fixes and even went as far as trying to set up a new profile and copy old one to it...still won't work . I know it is something in my profile , but can't figure it out . I don't want to reinstall Vista , but.....any help would be greatly appreciated , thanks in advance ,
Ken
