Another Volume Mixer problem

I listen to music a lot on my computer and I put the volume up at around 42. But then my Windows Sounds can absolutely KILL my ears when it comes on for some reason like an alarm I have set or something.

So... I like to open up the Windows Volume Mixer and turn the Windows Sounds down to about 20.

But here's the problem: It won't STAY there!
Every time I turn my computer off and on again, I have to reset it. Is there no way to keep it where I want it to stay?

Thanks. But I don't want to disable it, I just want to lower it.
Is this a Windows function or a function of my Sound Card? In other words, if I bought a certain sound card, could I solve this problem? (I could use a new one, anyway...)

I too having same problem. VISTA suck A LITTLE!

My volume setting for various executables like windows or iexplore reset to master slider. So, even if I disable windows sound, on certain event it reset to device setting. Usually all my resets disturbance happens with iexplore usage somehow. I can repeat problem except for disable volume setting on app, I don't know how to repeat that for sure. It doesnt bother me now since I have to adjust volume per app when I listen to music every time.

I sense win7 may have same problems. There is no lock check box to lock sound level setting. I don't know why microsft took this feature out or I remember wrong that this feature was around in the early windows.

I have the latest driver from the manufacturer. I have no problem with sound for any app or pc game, it is the setting of sound level per executable in vista that gets reset on occasion when using iexplore (reboot not require and it still resets).

the only thing consistent in volume mixer is master slider or device volume slider. Everything else reset to that after a while when you adjust volume for each apps (volume not exceed master slider too!).

It is dissappointing that microsoft fail to figure out the user interface for volume mixer and expectable outcome for each setting. Thus the unexpected and consistent volume reset to master slider or device volume. In summary, the volume mixer user interface for windows vista is retarded in design and implementation.

I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately, there is not solution that I know of. Possibly in about 18 months when Windows 8 is released, the problem will be corrected.
