    USB Headphones not working.

I am having issues with my Plantronics Gamecom Pro-1 headphones.

Two weeks ago my hard drive died and I had to replace it. After I replaced the hard drive and reinstalled my OS (windows vista 64) and updated my drivers, my headphones developed this same horrible echo-like ringing where all sound is very distorted. I ended up RMAing at the suggestion of the support person and after being positive my Realtek drivers and Windows were completely up to date. The odd thing about this is I had a crappy pair of headphones that plugged right into the analog speaker jack and had no issues with these for the week I was waiting for my RMA, however they are very uncomfortable and don't have a mic.

To my disappointment, when the new headphone arrived, I am still having the same issue. All my drivers are up to date, as I said, and the jack head phones work just fine. I have made sure the the main USB ports are being used, I even tried the ones on the front of my computer, as well as the ones off my G-15. So I can assume the headphones are broken right? Wrong. The headphone work just fine in my wife's laptop which has a much older copy of Windows XP. Also, to make sure it wasn't my computer, I went to Wal-Mart and bought a $30 pair of Logitec USB headphones. I unplugged the Plantronics set, and plugged in the Logitec ones. I am now hearing the same problem on the Logitec headphones until AFTER I restart my computer. After the restart, the new logitec headphones installs ITS software and they work perfectly. Unplug the Logitec, and plug the Plantronics set back in, and the SAME problem returns.

Unless I am the world's unluckiest person and somehow managed to break my headphones and receive another pair of broken headphones, there is something not jiving with either one of the more recent Windows updates, Realtek drivers, motherboard driver and the plug 'n play software. The sound is working on my computer out of the jacks, AND the USB port with different headphones. Its not the actual headphones themselves because they work on my wife's computer. Super long story short how do I fix this software problem?

A few things to add that I've had some people try to help me with.
The Plantronics headphones ARE being recognized by windows, but if I try to "updated driver" it is "already up to date" (I assume this is because they are plug and play) I am unable to "roll back" the driver or any drivers for that matter because it is a fresh hard drive and I was not able to save anything off it.

I'm sorry for being long winded, but this is a pretty specific issue and i think it needed the background info to possibly diagnose.

The only think i can think rite now is when you replaced your HDD you have caught a vital wire for the usb and dislodged it from the main board or main board to sound card bridge cable if not onbourd sound

Takes a long hard study at all the cable management and be sure everything is connected firmly and connected in the correct locations.... please refer to your Main board Manual to be 100% sure everything is in its correct location

Well I got the manual out, which was rather confusing, however I believe everything is in its place. If something was out of place, would it still cause most USB devices to work properly, but not this specific one?

Realtek has its own control panel, and in this panel, for both analog and digital outs, there is an "effects" tab within which you can select EQ and ambience effects. Check that panel; you might have the digital out effects turned on by accident. I guess it would be the digital outs as the outs in question as you are using USB headphones.
