no audio output device is installed!

Hello,

I have Hp Compaq Presario F700, my sound card is not working anymore. It says no audio output device is installed. Unfortunately, there is no "sound, video and game controllers" in device manager, and also my sound device is not seen in device manager. My sound appeared a few days ago, but after a restart it has gone again. I tried to install the driver over and over again, but it says "could not find MEDIA device for this driver" I don't know what to do! Please someone help me.


My Operating System is Vista.

Go into device manager and show hidden devices. This is in the view menu.
Are there any devices with a red cross or yellow exclamation mark next to them?
Try doing a restore to a time before this started to happen.
Are you using the 64 or 32 bit drivers?

Thank you for your reply. I've already gone into device manager and there are no devices with a red cross or yellow exclamation mark. Unfortunately, I can't do the system restore to the time problem appeared, because I've took my pc back to the factory settings in order to solve the problem but it did not. I'm using Vista 32 bit. I've already tried to update the drivers from hp web page, but as I said before, as I want to update the sound driver, it says "could not find media device for this driver" The system doesn't see my sound card, that's the main problem, so that I can't update the driver which a system doesn't see.

Thank you for your response but unfortunately I've tried that before, however my sound card is can not seen at bios cause it is not onboard I think.

I don't want to give you any bad news but if the bios didn't have the option to enable sound it may be a workshop job.

It may not be that bad, because I guess not all the computers have the option to enable/disable audio function in bios, it depens on the sound card is on board or not if I am not wrong. For example, also my brother's pc doesn't has the option to enable/disable sound, and he hasn't got any problems with his pc.

I think you might need to do a repair install. Could the sound card be damaged?
