none of the suggestions helped my situation. Now what?
click on the speaker icon in notification area, then click mixer.
Do you get a box open with all your sound volume settings here?
I get a box with 3 sliders, all 3 are maxed out.
What type of file are you playing and what program are you playing it with please?
Open the speaker icon in the lower right corner. Then click mixer and pull whatever sound problem up and PRESTO!!!!!!!!!!
Click on the volume icon in the lower right corner. Click mixer and pull the thing up to where you want it to be. The volume is back to normal.
