headset microphone not working

Ok so i've been researching and i can not figure out what happened to my mic. its a logitech and I used it about 4 months ago and it worked fine. but when i try it now, it doesn't pick up anything ...it works on a computer with XP but not on mine with vista. Apparently one of the Vista updates messed it up.

-its plugged in the right jacks, i've tried the 2 different sets on my computer, still nothing
-I have sound through the headset speakers'
-In the "Setup Microphone" under "Speech Recognition" where you speak the sentence, the Green Bar doesnt move unless i have the Microphone Boost at max but even then it just bounces a little and doesnt pick up any sound.

-**I've tested it on a computer with XP and it worked**
-The drivers are up to date, im using Realtek HD Audio
- It's not muted, everything that says Microphone i have up
- it says the mic is working properly, ...but not so much

- i've tried everything i can think of and still nothing.

*the only thing i see that i think is different is that in "Playback" tab in the "Sound" options it only says speakers, not headset/headphones etc. Under the "Recording" tab, it has the mic there and it says its working, but its not

Hi lloydikins, welcome to the forums.

Can you do me a favour and right click the empty space where playback devices are shown, now click on "show disabled devices", this should bring up something called stereo mix, right click that and enable, now... With the headset on, can you hear anything from the microphone when you talk?

Also, the operating system doesn't show a headset as you're using analog jacks, it's just an audio device, it cannot detect a headset through analog jacks...

Very strange indeed, can you tell me the model number of the logitech headset? I'll have a look into it and get back to you very soon.
