Sound stops working for current program

My sound works, it just stops working after so long of a program being open. If i reopen the program then it works again for a lil bit.

I just recently put a 3.4 quad core(AMD Phenom II x4 965) and a nvidia GeForce GTS 450 video card in my machine (core in dual core died and my video card died) replacing my old stuff.

I updated my sound stuff from my motherboard's website after it wasnt working and got a "VIA HD Audio Deck" which looks a lot better but has not helped as of yet.

I believe this to be either something wrong with the motheboard(onboard sound) or something pertaining to my sound and some form of privilege. I have messed around with not allowing other programs access etc with my sound and has not changed anything.

It might be good to mention that im currently running off 2 gigs of memory (somehow my 2nd 2gig stick went bad while my cpu sat idle for the past months).

Does the issue occur while playing a specific program ?

OR

Does it die after a specified amount of time on an application ?

I'm having a similar issue
Sound just cuts out and it doesn't matter what program, for me.
Winamp cuts out with error, JetAudio cuts out with error, Skype cuts out and says "cannot communicate with sound card" and I have to call people back without closing skype, Dvds cut out as if they are skipping, and they come back.
Restart any of these programs and it's fine again.
Sometimes out of no where, the stereo - that is connected to speaker output - starts squealing really loud... turn it off and back on, it's fine.

I tried windows update 2 days ago... nothing changed.

It's like something is either loose or it's some driver issue.
I have onboard sound by the way.

I'd love to get rid of this problem
