vista32 audio "stutter"

The audio in all programs has an interruption about every 30 secs. The interruption sounds most like a "stutter"/audio vibration. Any suggestions?

Hi tooze,

That's great, thank you.

Try doing this:

Uninstall Driver

  1. Open the start menu
  2. In the search box, type Device Manager and open it
  3. Expand the Sound, video and games controllers category by clicking on the little + sign
  4. Right click on your anything in there and select Uninstall
  5. Reboot your computer after that finishes

Let me know how it goes!

Sorry, I shall amend the text file with those instructions to be more precise next time. What this will do, is remove the driver (surprise surprise!) and then when you reboot, Windows will detect the missing driver and will reinstall it. This will let me know if this is a driver problem or not :) Don't worry about the warning, go ahead and do it.

Okay, let's try this then:

SFC Scan

  1. Open the start menu
  2. In the search box, type cmd
  3. Right click on cmd and select Run as administrator
  4. In command prompt, type:

    sfc /scannow

  5. Let it run and let me know if it finds any Integrity Violations

Okay, here's the result of sfc/scannow:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log\winder\logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example: c:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Hi,
Okay, did the procedure and rebooted. Still stuttering (?)

Hi tooze,

Do you have any headphones to hand? Can you see if this audio stutter is happening through them? Do you know if this stutter is actually written to files? For example, can others hear this stutter through audio recordings?

Hi Tom,
Unfortunately I tossed my old headphones (for another reason) and have not replaced them yet.
As for others hearing the audio problem, do you mean in audio files I might send to others? If so, I don't think I've ever sent anything that contains audio.
All I know is that all programs I use on my computer that has audio, has this "stutter" or intermittent "tictictic" that interrupts the audio. And, this problem happened about the same time I had problems with iTunes. The iTunes problem has been resolved thankfully.
Hope this sheds some light.
Thank you,
Tooze

Hello Tom,

I came across some headphones and the stutter can be heard through those as well.
Do you have any more ideas or is it time to take the laptop in for repair?

Thanks,

tooze

Hi tooze,

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, exams are soon approaching and I've got a large backlog of threads to get through!

This sound(ed) like it could be caused by two problems - a faulty sound card or faulty speakers. By testing if the problem occurred with headphones, we've been able to eliminate faulty speakers being the cause. To me, it sounds as if something is up with your sound card. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot I can do to help with that because it's quite fiddly to replace a sound card in a laptop, so yes, it would be best if you took it in for repair :( If you mention to them that we've tested for sound driver faults and speaker problems and that we're fairly sure it's a sound card problem, then it will probably speed things up considerably and will hopefully save you a bit of money :) A sound card isn't too expensive so hopefully it wont cost you much :)

Hi Tom,
No apologies. I really appreciate all the time you've spent trying to figure out what's wrong with/how to fix my audio problem. Plus, because of you I'll be able to take the laptop in for repair and sound like I know a thing or two about computers.

So thanks again and best of luck with exams,

tooze

Hi tooze,

Thanks for the kind words :) It's really nice to hear things like that, it's not often people are so grateful for the help we give. LOL, hopefully it wont be anything more than a simple sound card replacement - so you'll be able to sound as clever as you like!

You're most welcome, and thank you. Hopefully the rest of 2012 will be computer problem free, but if something does come up, then feel free to pop back at any time.

Tom

Edit: Also, thanks for the rep! I really appreciate it.

Hello. I don't want to be rude and hijack tooze's thread, but I have almost exactly the same problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 (64 bit). The operating system has just been reinstalled and now the audio is stuttering. I was wondering if it was a software issue or if there is something wrong with the soundcard.

Also, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and disabling enhancements. The SFC scan came up with no violations. I tried disabling all of the startup services and the audio seemed to be fine when I disabled the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. Could that be causing the problem?
