I can't get no sound from my computer. I have tried running widows fix and it says that it is disabled but i cannot find the disabled sound icon i can only find digital output device (HDMI).

When i start my computer i get a meesage saying unable to locate folder which i am guessing is the sound device.

This is frustrating as i have been to many sites to try various things and nothing has worked.

Please help

Welcome
This is the first thing to try.
Go to search by the start button and type device manager.

In device manager update all drivers that refer to sound. You will find it toward the bottom of the list.

Go to the bottom right task bar, on the clock, and right click and then customize
notification icons. Set it so the sound icon shows. Then open volume mixer. Bring up volume and make sure it is not on mute.

i can see the icon it has allways been there the problem i have is that i get no sound at all as i believe that i have digital uotput device that requires HDMI cable where i have a normal jack cable from the coputer to the monitor.

There is no sound when i plug head phones in either.

the only thing that changed since i had sound before to when i did not was that i ran disk defrag

You could try to run a system restore to back before the problem started.

If you speak german, have a look at this. If not, let me sum it up for you : The guy there also had no sound suddenly, he found out that his driver got corrupted somehow but windows wouldn't let him install a new one properly so in the end he had to restore his system and install a new driver. Sounds alot like your problem, maybe the defrag program you ran had a faulty routine that relocated some important driver-files ? (if that is possible) Good Luck !
