Hi Mark,

Please follow the steps to ensure that audio service is enabled:

1. Click Start, type Services.msc in the Start Search box.
2. 2. Scroll down the list of services, right-click Windows Audio and select Start.
3. 3. Select Properties for Windows Audio and set its Startup Type to Automatic.

If the Windows Audio service does not start and you get the error Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start, then make sure that the following services are started and their Startup Type is set to Automatic.

• Plug and Play
• Multimedia Class Scheduler
• Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

Please use the following link for detailed instructions to enable or disable services: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/59910-services.html

Please post back with the results.

Try system restore - as Madhur suggested.

If you get really stuck , you might end up trying a factory reset using the Toshiba supplied recovery partition or recov discs you have burnt .

The difficulty there is it won't contain your own data - you need to back that up first, and it will be horribly out of date.

As a last resort ( you live nearby ), I could get you a copy of my installation media ( you need your own product key on the machine itself, possibly under the battery ) , It is up to date and includes service packs and updates to present time.

Login UI. exe Bad Image ,error 193 when i try to start Multimedia and error 1068 .

Still no volume :(

System restore has only one date which was when i had the problem on it.

When i click on the speaker icon it still says the Audio service is not running and when i click on the play back devices it shows my Realtek speakers are working ??

when i run - regedit services it does not show audio services does this matter ? Or is it listed under another name ?

I don't think he has the vista installation media.

If he wants, he can have a copy of mine - he has his own product key of course.
