Hi billybellfoot,

Let’s try few steps and check if issue gets resolved:

1. Click Start.
2. Press the “Windows + R” to launch the run window.
3. Type “mmsys.cpl” and click ok.
4. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
5. Click the Sounds tab.
6. Check the box near “Play Windows Startup Sound” and click Apply.
7. Click Ok.
8. Restart your computer and check if you are able to hear the Windows log-on sound.

Please post the results.

Hi billybellfoot,

Let’s try to change the default sound to speaker from nVidia HDMI output (Under Playback tab in sound properties) and check if it works.

If issue persists, I request you to provide me some information:
1. How exactly is the computer connected to speakers?
2. Did you try to change any settings?
3. Did you try to install the sound drivers and check if it works?

Please post the results.

Hi billybellfoot,

Let’s try few steps and check if the sound works properly:

1. Uninstall the Video Drivers and Audio Drivers.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Download and install the Video drivers from vendor’s website.

Restart the computer and check if sound works.

Please post the results.

i tried using the downloaded driver to update the driver and still no change everything exactly the same?

windows sound only plays when media player is open?
i.e :

media player open: insert or remove device / usb (sound BING BONG)

media player not open: insert or remove device / usb (no sound?)

i have just checked properties of my nvidia device (outputs through hdmi Main output)

and noticed someting that may or may not be related i will provide screen shot below
under supported formats tab (encoded formats) with Microsoft WMA Pro audio selected when i click test a warning dialogue box appears stating :eindows was unable to play the test tone. support for this format will be disabled. (see screen below)

so if i play a video file through wmp and turn the volume down then say remove a usb i get a "bing bong"
if i then close wmp and put usb back in i dont get a "bing bong"

i not sure but think it could be codec related but am not sure and certainly wouldnt know where to start to fix the
issue

thanks though for trying to help me with the problem much apreciated
